Workshop description:

Whether it's a multi-room immersive art installation, a skyscraper with projectors that generate content via social media APIs, or a next-level DJ set, we've all had a moment of awe while experiencing a TouchDesigner installation. Now it's your turn to dive in! This introductory course focuses on an overview of working with TouchDesigner, a node-based programming environment used in media installations, live events, museums, and for media servers internationally. This workshop will introduce you to TouchDesigner and enable you to create interactive applications even if you have no prior experience with node-based programming environments. Topics covered will include: real-time composting, audio-reactive content, generative 3D geometry, interactive particle systems, working with sensors, and output to screens and projectors.

Workshop requirements:

- A laptop or desktop computer capable of running TouchDesigner.

- A derivative account to license TouchDesigner (the free, non-commercial license will work for this workshop).

- TouchDesigner 099 (any build 2021) installed.

- External muse.

- Workshop in English

Course contents:

- The basics of the TouchDesigner paradigm: never used a node

-based programming environment before? This course walks you through the basics of TouchDesigner logic and workflows, explaining exactly what nodes and wires are and how they work. This includes a tour of the basic settings and preferences you can take advantage of in TouchDesigner that will set you up for success and make your life easier.

- Discover the six families of operators used by TouchDesigner and how they integrate with the TouchDesigner workflow. This course walks you through an example project for each of them. Carrier families include…

- Channel data and signal processing (CHOPs)

- Composition and manipulation of textures (TOPs)

- 3d procedural and rendering (SOPs) - Data processing (DATs)

- Materials and shading (MATs)

- User interface and controls (COMP)

- Basics of real-time generative graphics: From generating graphics using real-time dynamic noise data to audio-responsive 3D geometry, we'll look at several examples of how to get started creating beautiful generative content in TouchDesigner

- Access hardware and software inputs/outputs in your works, such as live audio streams, webcam feeds, network video streams, Kinect sensors, and use them as source materials to generate content or process input or output streams. exit.

- Build force-driven particle systems that you can interact with via keyboard, mouse, sensors, or generated control signals - Learn how to interact with and control different displays, screens, and projectors from within TouchDesigner to display your work on almost any type of monitor

- Understand the basics of Python scripting, even if you've never coded before! This course will introduce you to the essential programming concepts you'll need to feel in control of your TouchDesigner projects and be able to create complex systems and decision trees for your experiences.

- You will leave this workshop with many example projects and pieces of generative art that you have developed that you can use as templates for your own creations!
